Prior Knowledge |
Adapted from the Q&A Webinar:
When asking students what they know, we need to define what "know" means. Consider a generic multiple choice response option to teach students to analyze themselves thoroughly. Students will tend to say "yes" they have heard of or know everything that is considered "Prior Knowledge."
How familiar are you with Bloom's Taxonomy?
- I have never heard of it
- I have heard of it, but I don't really remember what it is
- I have heard of it, and I can explain what it is
- I can explain what it is and I know what it is used for
- I know what it is used for and I can explain when and why

Rubrics/Checklists
If the goal is to foster self-regulating skills in our students, we need to teach them how to assess their own work. Provide rubrics and/or check lists for students to use to assess whether or not their work has met the criteria for the assignment. Provide opportunity for revision for additional credit.
